hat are the possible effects of laser eye surgery? Laser eye surgery is not as risky as it used to be but it still does have plenty of risks associated with it. Many people are choosing this type of surgical procedure to correct their vision. It is important for anyone thinking about having eye surgery to be aware of the risks and possible outcomes of the surgery. Making an informed decision starts with discussing the possible outcomes with your surgeon. Better Vision Of course the ideal outcome is that you will come out of the surgery with better vision than before. Although it is possible to have fully corrected vision and not need glasses at all any more, it is also possible that you will still need glasses to see at certain distances. The ideal outcome for vision correction is to have your vision fully restored and no further need of glasses or contacts. No Change It is also possible that despite the surgeons best efforts you will walk away from the surgery clinic with little or no change in your eyesight. Although this is very disappointing it can usually be rectified with an additional surgery. This is not very common but it is a possibility that you should be prepared for. Worse Vision Most people thinking of having laser surgery do not consider the possible result of having worse vision than before. Even when their surgeon clearly states this as a possible result of the surgery many patients have a difficult time actually thinking this could happen to them. Often this type of outcome can be corrected through and additional surgery but it is possible that the damage to the eyes will be permanent. Full Vision Loss Your ophthalmology surgeon will explain the worst possible outcome to you at your consultation appointment. Although it is extremely uncommon to have a laser surgery result in blindness, it is possible and you should be informed about this possible result of your surgery. Infection This is fairly uncommon but still can happen to anyone who is having corrective eye surgery. Your doctor may prescribe an antibiotic or antibiotic eye drop to help prevent an infection from occurring. If an infection does occur it is important to get it treated right away to prevent damage to your eyes or your vision. Finding out from Your Surgeon Anyone thinking about having laser eye surgery should be aware of all the possible outcomes to their surgery. Doing your own research and educating yourself on the techniques, training, and results of laser eye surgery will be beneficial when you attend your consultation meeting with your surgeon. At your consultation, feel free to discuss your concerns regarding the type of surgery you will be undergoing. An open discussion of the possible effects of eye surgery is the best way to gather the important information you need in order to make your decision. The Internet is another great resource tool for finding out more information on laser eye surgery. Finding the corrective eye surgery solution that is right for you can be a challenge. Have you considered medical treatment and surgical help for this in India? My cousin got her surgery from a company called Forerunners Healthcare in India. She just paid 25% of the amount she was quoted in USA. Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines. I have read a lot of their patient stories also. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as all types of medical treatment and surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that your medical treatment and surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star. http://www.forerunnershealthcare.com Hope this helps By: Mabel 2008-06-26 12:50:44

How bad do your eyes have to be to not be able to get laser eye surgery?

I really want laser eye surgery and I have a few questions. My eyes are really bad, one is -7 and the other is -9 and those are the numbers for my contact lenses. What's the worst prescription you can have and still get laser eye surgery? Also, I have floaters on my eyes, is it still possible to get the surgery with floaters on your eyes? (Floaters are little dots that you see in your normal vision for those who don't know) For those who live in Canada and have gotten it done, how much did you pay for your surgery?

You would have to have a consultation. It is not just as simple as just measuring your prescription. During laser surgery the surgeon slices a layer off the front of your cornea (in very simple terms) so, the thickness of your cornea is a huge factor. ie. you could have a very thin cornea but only have a small prescription and be unsuitable for surgery or you could have a higher prescription and be suitable because your cornea is thick. I feel the answer will be no because your true prescription will be stronger than your contact lens prescription and over a -9 is really pushing it but you'll never know unless you see some surgeons. It is cosmetic surgery so treat it like that, See several surgeons and get several opinions, don't opt for the cheapest, opt for the one with best results and recommendations. There are other types of refractive surgery for example cataract surgery (without actually having a cataract!) so there may be an option for you :) By: Bec 2008-10-26 11:50:10

How much does entropria eye surgery for cats cost?

My Persian cat needs eye surgery called Entropria and I would like to find out how expensive the procedure is and if the procedure needs to be done again or once is all. I got one quote for $1200 for the procedure.

I got a kitten last summer who was born without eyelids. The vet thought she had probably had an infection in utero which ate them away. She had cyrosurgery to remove the hairs along the tops of her eyes so her eyeballs wouldn't get scratched. The surgery was around $800 and money spent for diagnosis, etc. I got a discount as she was a rescue shelter kitten. I think the surgery to correct the genetic condition of entropion is around $1200 from a veterinary eye specialist. The condition can occur in both cats and dogs. (And I guess from the other response in bunnies too!). By: old cat lady 2009-06-07 18:40:56

YES DON'T DO LASIK!!!!! You will ruin your military flying career!! PRK is the only authorized corrective surgery for pilots. I am going to flight school myself and have researched like crazy! Current prices are around $3500 for both eyes. The military also requires one year healing time after surgery; so plan accordingly! Good Luck! By: Bob Lucero 2007-12-08 22:58:51
